Hrvatska grančica

„Hrvatska grančica, the bilingual publication (Croatian–Romanian) serving the Croatian community in the Caraș-Severin region and the population of Timiș County, was founded at the end of 1994. Its establishment was made possible thanks to the provisions of the Romanian Constitution regarding the rights of national minorities, subsidies from the Romanian government, and the dedication of Professor Mihai Radan, the publication’s first editor-in-chief.

It is important to emphasize that, since 1991, the Union of Croats in Romania has been actively representing the Croatian community in the country. Its main goal is to promote all aspects of Croatian identity within the local community.

The first issue of the publication was produced through the efforts of Professor Mihai Radan and two other editors, Dr. Martin Slovensky and Professor Mihai Todor. Martin Slovensky explained the choice of the title “Hrvatska grančica”: “The Croatian family tree has spread its branches across the world, and the Croatian minority in Romania is part of that tree. We aim to be like the olive branch carried by the Angel Gabriel—the Annunciation branch, a symbol of peace and joy—which announces to the Queen of the Croats, the Holy Virgin Mary, the joy of our words for the Caraș community within this publication.”

Over the years, many editors have contributed to the publication, ensuring its continuity to the present day. Regarding its editorial leadership, Professor Mihai Radan served as editor-in-chief until 2009, followed by Slobodan Ghera until 2012, when he was elected as a representative of the Croatian minority in the Romanian Parliament. Since 2012, Ivan Dobra has held the position of editor-in-chief.
